Good to know

Practical notes

  • Fes to Chefchaouen is about 4 hours by road via Ouazzane — do it one-way rather than as a day trip and back.
  • Stay inside the medina in both cities for atmosphere; a local guide is essential in Fes el-Bali.
  • From Chefchaouen you can continue 2 hours north to Tangier to catch a ferry or flight.

Frequently asked

How do you combine Fes and Chefchaouen?

The natural way is one-way: two days in Fes, then the 4-hour drive north to Chefchaouen for an overnight in the blue medina. From Chefchaouen you can continue to Tangier (2 hours) rather than backtracking to Fes.

How far is Chefchaouen from Fes?

About 200km, roughly 4 hours each way via Ouazzane through olive country and the Rif foothills. It's better done as part of a multi-day route than as a day trip.
