Why Ouzoud Falls
Three hours from Marrakech in the Middle Atlas, the Cascades d'Ouzoud are the country's most beautiful waterfalls — a 110-metre triple drop into a green gorge, often crowned with rainbows in the afternoon spray. If the Akchour falls are the blue city's nearby cascade, Ouzoud is their grander southern cousin: far higher and busier, but reached from the opposite end of Morocco. A shaded path winds down past olive groves and old water mills (ouzoud means olives in Berber), with troops of wild Barbary macaques along the way and small boats ferrying visitors to the foot of the falls.
What to see
A 110m three-tier waterfall thundering into a pool — walk down to the base or take a small boat into the spray.
Wild, habituated monkeys live in the olive and oak woods beside the path — keep your distance and your snacks zipped away.
A gentle trail continues below the falls into a green river gorge with riverside cafés and swimming spots.

Yes — it is the most rewarding nature day trip from the city: dramatic waterfalls, wild monkeys and a green gorge, all very different from the medina and the desert. It plays the same role for Marrakech that the Akchour falls play for Chefchaouen — a green half-day escape into the hills. Go early to beat the afternoon crowds.
About 2.5 hours each way. A private day trip gives you several hours at the falls and a lunch overlooking the cascades before returning by evening.
